Entered the industry at 18 with a salary of $250 per month and All I Could Eat! At 18, the last part was the best part.

Started Clear Field Optical 6 months later when I did not know enough to know I did not know enough. Just a local finishing lab, no surfacing for a few years.

Started Multi-Facets Labs (MFL) after a trip to Sweden and visiting Polaris Optic, at the time, the real starter of the Faceting Industry.

Owned Multi-Facets Labs for 19 years.

Saw my first Silhouette Titan Frame while negotiating to leave MFL to the partner I had given half to since he was such a good sales rep.

Not knowing who Silhouette was, I called the account that had sent the Silhouette frame to process to find out about the frame. In talking to Silhouette company to thank them for such a great Drilled Frame Mounting system, Silhouette told me I was the only Wholesale Lab in the USA that liked their Titan Frame.

After a conversation with their Quality Control, I was offered a consulting position to train Wholesale Labs how to process the Titan Frame. I visited most of the large labs in the USA. And decided to make Drilling Easier.

Spent a year designing the first version of the Smart Drill. After selling a few to wholesale labs and buying the first version back. I spent a few months re-designing the 2nd version of the Smart Drill. Sold the Smart Drilling System for the next 10 years.

Won the Optical Lab Association’s “Best Of Finishing Equipment” Award the first year I was nominated for the Award. This was back Before a certain company owned most of the Wholesale Labs.

Drilling Edgers Arrived and since I had sold most of the accounts that wanted to drill their own lenses. I looked around and sold different Edgers for a while.

I noticed that Service was a continual issue, so I made sure to concentrate on the Service side. I also noticed that the Japanese Made Edgers lasted the longest and seemed to need the least amount of servicing. That is why I only sell Edgers made in Japan.

Knowing several offices that used the DIA Edgers for decades I have now become the USA Distributor of the DIA Edging System. I am still committed to those accounts that I have helped over the years with other manufactures edgers, but am working to reintroduce the DIA Systems as they have some unique features and working to keep the Edging System very affordable as the point is to help you become more profitable. Not the Wholesale Labs.
